I found this story incredibly sad. The way that Azucena is described as floating or sinking makes me think more of a swelling ocean than a mud pit. In the beginning she is a strong character, she believes she will get out. Everyone is sure she will get out, the fact that Rolf is thinking of what to buy her when she is in the hospital is assuring.
Rolf is a very interesting character. In the beggining he is portrayed as a hard faced reporter. Simply reporting the news, not really feeling it. But with time he becomes very involved with Azucena. They tell each other stories of their life. They become very close but at the end he knows it is her time and he lets her slip away.
I was a bit confused about what exactly happened. Was it an avalanche or a mud slide. The word ice is used that made me believe that it was an avalanche but also Azucena is buried in a mud hole.

This is an article about the Malaysian Airlines lost plane. I think that the ideas of loss that are exhibited in both this story and our first story play into this. For the families of the victims it ha sbeen an emotional roller coaster of hope and loss of hope, loss and possible gain.
